The Quiet Heroes Behind Unapologetic

An ode to the angels, the deep-end friends, and my bold-hearted tribe who shaped Unapologetic

There’s a lot I want to share with you about the book…but second to “why” I have to point to the “who.”

Because when I think about how Unapologetic came to life, it’s easy to point to the stories I lived, the truths I learned, and the pages I filled.

But the truth is, this book has a heartbeat because of the people who breathed life into me when I lost my way.

Unapologetic came from moments of defeat, struggles, loss, and confusion. It’s where I went for direction when quite frankly I had no idea where else to go.

But there’s beauty in the broken and my story is a testament to that.

The rawness that you’ll read from page-to-page is an ode to the people who showed up at just the right time.

The people who didn’t need an invite to jump right into the deep end with me.

The mentors who believed in the version of me I couldn’t always see.

The tribe of friends who didn’t try to fix me, silence me, or make me smaller. Instead, they held space for me to remember who I was and who I wanted to become.

With every “you’ve got this” when I wasn’t sure I did…or wasn’t sure how they walked hand-in-hand with me to the finish line.

I’ve got to ask you…

  1. Who are these people for you?

  2. Have you told them lately?

I can proudly say that these beautiful humans in my life know how much they’ve shaped me. They’ve been on the receiving end of praise, love, hugs, and more hugs.

And for a select few they’ve even gotten a horrible rendition of “I Just Called to Say I Love You” with me & Steve singing at the top of our lungs.

Why? Because they may not have written the words on the pages, but they lived it with me.

They encouraged me. Believed in me. Affirmed me.

Unapologetic isn’t just about my story. It’s stitched together with theirs, too.

So today, I just want to say thank you…to the angels among us, my deep-end friends, and my bold-hearted tribe that reminds us we’re never too much for the right people.

I hope this can be your reminder to text, call, and hug (if you can) your people today.

Remind them how they’ve shaped your journey even if they don’t know it.

Because behind every brave move is a tribe of people who made us feel safe enough to try.

Here’s to the ones who helped us find our way back to ourselves, who believe in us when we may have forgotten, and will always love us, Unapologetically.

If you’re struggling with finding your own tribe, I’ve got something for you.
