Why do snakes have sharp teeth?

Yesterday we were preparing for our first air trip as a family of four. (I’m not sure “air trip” is the right term, but it was our first time flying together since Sophie girl joined the crew.)

The night before? Up with both kids. Multiple wake-ups. Zero rest.

So by the time we were zipping bags, checking the clock, and mentally running through TSA logistics, my patience was already fragile.

And then Hallie showed up as the special kind of unicorn she always is.

In the span of five minutes, I got hit with:

  • Where do babies come from?

  • Why do snakes have sharp teeth?

  • Why do we wear deodorant?

  • Did you have all the babies in your belly?

  • Why do mice eat cheese?

LAWD. There is a special place for parents of wildly curious tiny humans.

The timing was terrible.
The questions felt like a pinball machine in my brain.
And I could feel myself slipping into “hurry up, we don’t have time for this” mode.

But then I laughed. Because what I was witnessing wasn’t misbehavior.

It was wonder. Curiosity.

A mind still brave enough to ask questions without worrying if they sound silly, inappropriate, or inconvenient.

And it made me pause long enough to ask myself:

When do we lose that?
The wondering.
The curiosity.
The magic.

When do we stop asking because we’re afraid of the answer…or afraid of being too much…or afraid of slowing things down?

Maybe the goal isn’t to grow out of curiosity.

Maybe the work is to protect it, even when life is loud, busy, and running constantly behind.

Case and point: A sweet friend of mine spoke up in a meeting this week and despite the fear of being ridiculed, she was praised for adding real value…

This is what it’s what it’s all about.

So I have to ask you:

Where have you stopped asking questions?

Where have you quieted your curiosity to fit in, keep things moving, or maintain the peace?

This week, give yourself permission to ask the question you’ve been holding back…

In a world full of conformity, show up with the fierceness of a 4-year old (my Hallie).

Ask the bold questions.

Speak what’s on your heart.

Big hugs & so much love,

Cassy
