For My Girls

Would you believe that one of my favorite chapters in the book wasn’t in the first draft? 

It didn’t make the table of contents. You won’t see it in the original versions. In fact, I wrote the entire chapter after the book was finished on my phone during a flight. 

“For My Girls” was a message that I quickly realized I needed, but so did everyone else too. 

It’s one of those chapters where you go from smiling like the Cheshire Cat on Alice in Wonderland to wiping tears off your face… It’s my sweet Hallie’s story, but the anthem for all of our littles out there. 

It's my call to ask you how we can raise an Unapologetic generation if we aren’t first Unapologetic ourselves?

“It starts with you. And I know that’s heavy, I know that’s a lot of pressure, but you can do this. We can achieve it. If you can’t embrace being Unapologetic for yourself alone, do it for them.”

I wrote this book because it’s a message I wished I would’ve had. I hope it makes someone lonely feel less “alone.” I pray that it will shine light on the goodness that is in the world when we’re willing to look for it (and choose it). But the little hearts (and hands) that mean the absolute most to me, my girls, are the ultimate “why.” 

I want them to see Unapologetic embodied by what we do every day. The way we treat people, the words we choose, the acts of kindness, and every Love Em’ Down moment we’re presented. 

Having them with me this week meant more than words could ever express. My hope in launching this movement is that I take this journey alongside of them, not separate from them. 

I want them to remain Unapologetically themselves, always. 

It’s what I want for my girls, my tribe, and every beautiful human who picks up this book. 

For my deep-end friends, family, and tribe that showed up and OUT to celebrate this with me, thank you.  

For every pair of hands that holds the book, for every moment of hope it sparks, kindness it inspires, and magic it creates…this is the week I’ve been waiting for. And this is on the beginning.
