It started with a DM and ended at Trader Joe’s

Dr. Kasi Lacey and I have a scandalous story.

We met online. I slid into her DM's. We landed on what some would call a blind date, and somewhere in the Trader Joe's aisle sniffing candles, I quickly realized I'd found a deep-end friend.

She's spent her career studying self-trust and trust-driven leadership: what it takes to trust yourself, and what it takes to lead people who trust you back.

This friendship has already given me so much. But yesterday, I got to share the gift (her) with our Unapologetic Women, and the conversation was spectacular.

We talked about the ways we sabotage ourselves, knowingly or not, and how it shows up in everything we do and say.

Both Dr. Kasi and I have completely different stories with the same thru line: what happened to us shapes how we show up out loud, and it's still running the show underneath.

But the room didn't crack open until we asked one question.

We asked: "If you fully trusted yourself, what would you do this week?"

Whew. Even Dr. Kasi and I felt that one.

Three things stuck with me:

  1. Name your saboteur. Are you the perfectionist waiting to feel ready? The people-pleaser saying yes to everyone but yourself? The martyr sacrificing her needs for everyone else's? Or the achiever who only feels worthy with a new gold star?

  2. Brag about yourself on purpose. What's something worth celebrating that you breezed right past?

  3. Do one thing this week to build your self-trust "muscle."

The homework I gave the group was this: what's one move you can make this week to build it?

Because as we discussed it's not a perfect system. It's not an overnight fix. But it is a conscious choice every day to trust yourself, believe in yourself, and be mindful of what energy you give to that little voice inside your head.

Confidence doesn't come first. Belief does.

So what's your one move this week?

Big hugs & so much love,

Cassy
