Can you give me a favor?
“Can you give me a favor?”
Don’t worry, your eyes aren’t mistaking you.
You read that right out of the mind (and mouth) of my sweet 3-year old Hallie girl.
Today she asked her dad if he could “give her a favor” and even though we both knew she meant, I thought it was an interesting play on words.
What if we “gave” favors instead of always asking for them?
What if we immediately went on to do a favor for someone unprompted rather than as a response to a request?
A favor is defined as “an act of kindness beyond what is due or usual” so what simple act of kindness can we make that’s not actually due to anyone?
How many of us wish our partners would’ve just “given us a favor” without being asked in the form of: dishes, laundry, clean car, mopping, groceries, meal prep, or insert any other adult-related house chore here…the list is long y’all
But what if today we met someone with a “favor” completely unprompted? This doesn’t have to be a big, grand gesture.
I mean, it could be, but it could also be surprising your partner, showing kindness to someone you’d typically rush by, grabbing coffee for a co-worker, or even holding the door for a stranger.
Kindness is free, but we do have to choose it. And some days its easier than others, trust me…I know.
So I hope today you can “give someone a favor.”
& be nothing but yourself.
