Do you do this too… or just me?

Does anyone else try to make the bed while your partner is still in it?

Go with me on this for a minute…

I’m not saying you’re tucking them in without air, but I am saying you start the process in an effort to speed up getting them out.

I’ll accept any silence as validation that I’m a crazy person…

But I laugh as I type this because as funny as it is, it’s also a great example of how ridiculous I can be.

I had a founder ask me this week, “How do you make time for all that you’re doing?”

And it’s a fair question. I get it a lot.

My answer is pretty consistent… and this moment feels like the perfect place to share it: I don’t waste my time.

I don’t spend time on things that don’t serve a bigger purpose. I don’t say “yes” to things or people that aren’t worth the effort. And I also move about 90283471 million miles a minute.

Just ask my saint of a husband.

But if I’m being honest…sometimes that pace isn’t discipline.

Sometimes it’s me trying to move things along on my timeline.

And that shows up in ways that feel productive…but might actually be pulling people out of their own form of the “process.”

So this isn’t really about time at all, it’s about posing the question:

Where are we moving faster than the people around us?

As leaders, are you solving problems before your team can even identify them?

As parents, are we stepping in before our kids get the chance to try?

As spouses, are you making the bed before your partner can even get out of it?

As friends, are we making assumptions before even having a conversation?

Because I like to operate on my timetable…don’t we all?

But at whose expense?

Maybe today isn’t about doing more.

Maybe it’s about pausing long enough to let the people around you step in, step up, be part of it, and try.

Even if that means the bed gets made a little later…

Big hugs & so much love,

Cassy
