Ms. Frizzle was onto something…
I used to get ready for school watching The Magic School Bus while eating a Cosmic Brownie. I know what you’re thinking… breakfast of champions.
I loved the adventures. I loved how whacky Ms. Frizzle was. And I loved that there was magic in everything they did.
I guess I’ve always been drawn to those things and didn’t even realize it. She was Unapologetic in every way.
This week, Hallie was so excited to tell me that for popcorn day, they got to watch not one—but two episodes. “The storm and the ocean.”
And as we sat there asking Alexa all the facts (because I couldn’t remember a single name… including the lizard, Liz… still shocked that one didn’t stick ), Alexa said Ms. Frizzle’s slogan…
The one I had somehow forgotten too: “Take chances, make mistakes, get messy.”
I smiled so big as Hallie and I said it together.
Take chances.
Make mistakes.
Get messy.
And although The Magic School Bus has been around since 1986 (you’re welcome for the trivia)…
Somewhere along the way, a lot of us lost the magic.
I ask this in Unapologetic: At what point do we lose the magic we once had?
Because I don’t think we lost it on our own.
We were taught to play it safe. To get it right. To keep things in the “box.”
But the lesson Ms. Frizzle was teaching her class all along is one most of us could stand to relearn and the question I want to ask today:
Where can you take chances?
Where can you make mistakes?
Where can you get a little messy again?
Because magic doesn’t come from having it all figured out.
It comes from curiosity. From trying. From being willing to look a little silly in the process.
So I hope this is your reminder today to laugh a little louder, to try the thing you’re not sure you’ll be good at, and to let it be imperfect.
Not just for you, but for the people watching you.
Because the moment you give yourself permission to live a little more freely…you give them permission to do the same.
Let’s bring the magic back.
Big hugs & so much love,
Cassy
