What is Your Silence Costing You?
The last few weeks I’ve been in rooms filled with hard conversations…and if we’re being honest, you’ve probably been in a few of those rooms too.
Some were initiated out of necessity. Others weren’t given a choice. But whether the conversation was by choice or by demand, I recognized the words had to be spoken.
And as much as we all naturally hate having challenging conversations, the truth remains:
“Silence isn’t loyalty…it’s comfort disguised as care.” - Eddie Lowen
“It makes me uncomfortable.”
“I don’t like it.”
“How will they respond?”
These are the questions we all ask…right?
But my response is always the same: What’s the cost?
What is silence costing you?
What is avoiding the discomfort keeping you (or them) from?
What happens if you choose to stay quiet?
You don’t need a title to lead…and many with the title aren’t actually leading at all.
Leadership is defined by intention…the in-between moments. The interactions you have when no one else is looking. It’s easy to put on a show when everyone else is watching…But it’s telling what you do when no one is.
My mission for anyone I serve is this: own your voice so you can own your impact.
Not maliciously.
Not disingenuously.
Not to seek attention.
But to truly make a positive impact in the lives of the people around you…the ones who are counting on you to speak.
Because the fact is this: hard conversations will be had whether we have them or not. But at what cost to you?
I’ve been in the room, both as a facilitator and a bystander…
And I can tell you this—hard conversations, approached from a place of love, kindness, and sincere care, create outcomes well worth the discomfort.
Lives change when we choose to speak up.
