Be the One Who Calls It
Hallie plopped in my lap this morning and shouted, “Group hug!”
She leaned in with her whole body (lovey and all), like she always does, and I couldn’t help but laugh.
“Group hug” is something I’ve said to her since she was a baby. Anytime Eric and I wrapped her up in our arms, we’d say it and giggle… mostly because Hallie has never allowed us to hug without her wedging herself right in between.
But this morning felt different.
This week has been heavy. And without getting into the weeds, it was one of those mornings where the weight was trying to win.
And then she called it before I ever could… “Group hug!!!”
Those little ears are always listening, even when it feels like they’re not.
She hears me.
She sees me.
She’s watching my every move.
And more importantly… through that observation, she’s learning how to show up as a little human by watching how we show up as grown ones.
In a week that feels heavy, I’m reminded that even in the darkest moments… love never fails. (1 Corinthians 13)
Faith, hope, and love remain. But the greatest of these is love.
So when my sweet girl pulled me in for her best “group hug” [even when Uni wasn’t pulling her weight ] I hugged her back harder than normal.
I held her tight and got tearful, praying that she will always cling to love.
That she will always lean into the group hug. Lean into me.
And maybe that’s the reminder for all of us today.
When it feels heavy.
When it feels dark.
When it feels like the week is winning…
Lean into the “group hug.”
But also… be the one who calls it.
Be the one who interrupts tension with tenderness.
Be the one who chooses kindness when the world feels sharp.
Be the one who brings love into a space that didn’t ask for it but desperately needs it.
Love still wins.
Big hugs & so much love,
Cassy
