How do Our Choices Define Our Impact?
This is the first fall season I’ve been back in the midwest in over five years. And although I’m still in denial, my body is quickly reminding me that the changing of the seasons, hit me like a truck.
Allergies, allergens, cold air, hot air, cold air again…throw a cat or some hay in there and I quickly start to mirror Will Smith from Hitch.
I have been fighting off something for a week and yesterday I had the “Monday scaries” knowing good and well that I was jumping on the solo parenting train paired with a day full of important calls.
My attitude was a reflection of the simple fact that I felt crappy, but had to adult anyways. Who’s been there?
So as I got the girls ready and attempted to put us all together for the day, I made the mistake of sharing my ailments with Hallie.
We’re both dramatic, I’ll own it. And in this moment I might as well have handed her a mic and cued the theatrics. Everything I “had” she had too, but with far more drama
“I can’t go to school” she said. Paired with a cough, belly rub, and puppy dog eyes…”I need to stay home with you.”
It was in that moment that I realized this one was on me and I was the only one who could get us back on track.
I think it’s important to acknowledge and understand that some days it feels easy to leap out of bed ready to tackle the day. But what about the days that we have to really work for it?
It’s not all rainbows and sunshine, I know that. But our mindset will determine how we weather the storm.
I talk in Unapologetic about the choices we all have to make…The choice to find the good, the light, and the lessons in each moment.
Yesterday’s lesson for both Hallie and I was that we have to show up anyways. The truth is that we had a fun, busy weekend paired with “the allergies” (as Hallie would say) and there was no reason for either of us to “stay home.”
Of course, if you’re truly down for the count… rest, friend. But if it’s just the blahs, get up and go anyways. We both needed to show up and tackle the day.
Can I tell you what happened?
A whole lot of good. A lot of blessings. And a lot of impact.
So when you’re just not “feeling it,” I hope you show up anyways because there’s a reason you’re where you are and the world needs your light.
& be nothing but yourself.
Big Hugs & Love,
Cassy
