Big girl drop off

It’s the first Monday of 2026!

For those of us coming out of what felt like true hibernation (big bears included in tiny human form), returning to school routines, returning to work, returning to any sort of structure…all of the things… we made it.

In a conversation with Hallie girl, I was giving her what’s become our usual pep talk…

She has a hard time with transitions. She always has. I think she genuinely just wants all good things to last forever. She’s so present that when something comes to a screeching halt, she falls apart.

So we talk a LOT about what’s coming and always end with “big girl drop off!” like a football team ready to make the winning play…BREAK!

But this time, I needed that hype too.

There’s a lot that needs to be done this week. My house looks like a toy store exploded, we’ve eaten every snack under God’s green earth, and I’ve got baskets filled with clean laundry everywhere (at least they’re clean). 

It’s like a frat house… preschooler/baby edition.

So I’m taking a deep breath and reminding myself: big girl drop off.

Because we’ve got this. 

Rome wasn’t built in a day. And no matter how daunting the inbox looks, how much you know has to be done, or what shape your house is in, we’ll get there. Maybe not today…but soon.

Whatever this week holds, show up for yourself like you would for your people.

With grace. With encouragement. With belief.
