Look Up for a Second
The drive to school was special today because we all went together.
I needed Eric’s help since it was the last day before break and we had all the things to celebrate, including Grinch Day!
As we’re driving, Hallie is making her usual song requests (“Where Are You Christmas”), Sophie’s babbling away, and I am frantically trying to get as much done as I can in transition.
As we’re sitting at a four-way intersection waiting for the red light to turn, Hallie shouts, “I SEE SANTA ON THE BUS!!”
Huh?
We’re about three or four cars back with a full line of cars to our left. Eric and I are scanning around the four different traffic lights when we see it…there to the left of us is Santa driving the bus.
As we pull forward, all of our heads are turned left, admiring Santa behind the wheel of the school bus.
We couldn’t believe it. I’m not sure if it was me or Eric who first said, “How did she see that?”
To which I replied, “Because she’s looking for it.”
Hallie looks for the magic everywhere she goes. She points out the rainbows, the sunsets, the deer that wander her school and in this case, Santa.
Her eyes are peeled for the spectacular, the beautiful, the wonderful. And man, do I love that about her.
I think many of us are heads down (quite literally) staring at whatever screen we have in our hands at that moment.
We’ve got things to do, places to be, and we get too busy to even notice the beauty of what’s happening around us.
There is magic to be seen…BUT only if you’re looking for it.
I love that we got to see Santa driving the bus today.
But I love even more that Hallie doesn’t miss a beat.
She keeps me in line, she slows me down, and she continuously reminds me of the beauty and magic all around us.
Take the time to “ooh” and “ahh” with the person who does this for you in your life.
And if you don’t have that person, consider being it for someone else.
Unapologetic Truth:
Hallie sees it because she looks for it.
Sometimes the greatest gift we give is paying attention.
What will you see today?
& be nothing but yourself.
Big hugs & love,
Cassy
