Technically, it was an upgrade

Anyone who travels knows it's not always rainbows and sunshine. If you've been here long enough, I've catalogued some pretty memorable travel moments. But last night, I made a last-minute decision to leave home early because my AM flight was going to be brutal enough without the 90-minute commute to the airport.

In doing so, I had the great pleasure of staying at the closest airport hotel, the one & only Holiday Inn Express. Now, before you lean forward in your seat with "oohs" and "ahhs"... save them for just a second.

I've pictured the day when travel looks a bit more luxurious.

First-class flights without guilt. The upgraded meal without worry. And…wait for it…the hotel suite upgrade.

So as I checked in late last night, you can imagine my surprise when I opened the door and found myself UPGRADED from a standard room to the suite. Not exactly what I had pictured when I dreamed about my future of surprise suite upgrades…but here we were. 

Featuring a separate sitting area AND a pull-out sofa, go ahead and cue the “oohs” and “ahhs.” 

I had officially arrived. 🙈

Was it the Ritz-Carlton?

No.

Was it the best thing this particular Holiday Inn Express had to offer?

You bet it was! 

And it can be like that sometimes. Sometimes the upgrade, the dream, the idea, the plan looks very different from what we envisioned.

Sometimes it's humorous, like finding yourself wildly excited about the extra space at a Holiday Inn Express. Other times, it's not nearly as easy to laugh about.

But all around us, we're being gifted upgrades. Even when they don't arrive the way we pictured them. We just have to be willing to recognize them.

So I'll leave you with this today:
