I left the pancakes on the counter…

It was 12:30, halfway through the day, and I had emerged from my office for a quick coffee refill and reset before an afternoon full of calls.

And there, waiting for me at the end of the counter, were the pancakes from this morning.

Now, you have to know that I would normally never leave food out on the counter. I honestly don't even like to leave dishes in the sink. I like counters to be clear. Or as clear as they can be in this season of life.

Not sure about you, but when I'm working from home, it's hard to focus when I feel like my entire environment looks like the circus threw up on it.

And I realized that, in a moment of pure desperation that morning—baby screaming, brushing teeth, doing hair, trying to get everyone dressed and out the door, coming back to the car completely overstimulated before 8:00 a.m.—that pile of pancakes was all that was left to remind me of a really hard morning.

What a wake-up call.

Those two pancakes reminded me that sometimes real life will stand in your way of doing things the way you want to…following your process, sticking to your routine, keeping all the plates spinning.

Some days feel beautifully put together. Others leave us with syrup on the counter and evidence that we were simply doing the best we could.

I cleared the plate, washed the dishes, and reminded myself that we got through it.

But I hope my pile of pancakes can also be your reminder that when we're in the thick of it, it's okay to leave behind a few crumbs—or in this case, a few pancakes.

Because no matter what your pile of pancakes looks like today...

You're doing a better job than you think.

And while you're remembering to give yourself grace, remember the people around you have their own pile of pancakes too.

The coworker who seems distracted.
The mom who forgot something.
The cashier who's a little quieter than usual.
The friend who hasn't texted back.

We rarely know what someone else's morning looked like before they walked into ours.

So let me ask you:
What's your pile of pancakes today?

And maybe more importantly...
How will you respond to someone else's?

So today, give yourself grace.
Then hand some of it to someone else.

Because we're all carrying something.
Some of us just leave pancakes behind…

Big hugs & so much love,

Cassy
