The “How?” Is none of my business

Ever made a plan and it all goes perfectly? Ya, me neither.

Ever throw spaghetti at the wall and been totally surprised by what stuck? Yep, me too.

I’ve had more than a few people ask, “What’s your plan for Unapologetic Women?”

The answer is easy because I don’t really have one. The truth is, last summer, as women were beginning to read my book and learn more about my story, they were coming forward with their own. They felt connected to Unapologetic, called to this movement, and had a strong desire for community.

So I decided months before the book released that this book would only be the beginning…it would carry the message, but the community would carry the movement.

And when we launched Unapologetic Women on January 14th, I could’ve never imagined in my wildest dreams where we’d be six months later.

I’ll put my Kleenex box up on the shelf for now, but only because I’ve spent plenty of time being sappy (and have a lot left to go).

But it’s really important for you to know that something impacting hundreds of lives, bringing women together from across the country, and inspiring dreams into motion came from NO PLAN.

That’s right…

No plan.
No strategy.
No long list of KPI’s
No crazy metrics.

But yet, here we are six months later, with a lot of love, a lot of women, and a whole lot of impact. So why am I sharing this?

Because I think sometimes we get so caught up with the “how” that we forget the “what.”

How will I do it?
How will I find the time?
How will I know what to do next?
How will I know what to do at all?

I still don’t know those answers for most of what I do. But I’m going to fill you in on on my hot take…instead of focusing (or dwelling) on “how” I decide to chase the “what.”

What can go right.
What can change.
What can happen.
What can grow.

I bet on the “what” and hope and pray that the “how” will work itself out in the process.

Now don’t get me wrong, that doesn’t mean I sit passively waiting for things to drop out of the sky. There’s a lot of work behind the scenes.

But I don’t wait. I don’t wonder. And I don’t map out the entire journey before starting the trip.

I would challenge you to ask yourself.

Whether it’s big or whether it’s that looming “thing” that’s sat on your plate for weeks…Are you focused on the how? Or are you focused on the what?

More often than not, the how reveals itself only after you've committed to the what.

And if Unapologetic Women has taught me anything these last six months, it's this:

Some of the most beautiful things you'll ever build begin long before you know exactly how.

Confidence doesn’t come first, belief does.

And it turns out, some of the best things in my life started with a whole lot of belief and very little planning.

I’m so grateful our community just happens to be one of them.

To every person standing in or alongside what we’ve created and what we’re still building, thank you so much. Happy half of a year🤍.

Big hugs & so much love,

Cassy
