Building before Breakfast

The house is quiet.
My girls are still dreaming.
The sun’s still asleep (as we say)
But my busy mind has started the day.

I'm not sure about you, but my best ideas, writing, and "creative" all come to the surface most days before 6am.

Some might think this is inconvenient, I'll call it a mix of crazy with the morning bird bug.

I frequently wake up with a song, message, or idea on my heart and once it's there...it's hard to roll over and just "snooze" it for a few hours.

The discipline is listening when it's there and not waiting for when it's convenient.

And maybe that’s because some of the biggest things I’ve ever built happened while nobody was watching.

Most people don’t know that last spring almost completely took me out.

A few months postpartum.
Two dogs.
Two girls.
A partridge and a pear tree

Shortly after moving, I had to put my oldest dog down.
We had to move out of our brand new home.
I was publishing a book.
Recording the Audible.

Most nights looked like nursing Sophie in the middle of the night while responding to edits needed for Unapologetic with one eye open and a whole lot of belief.

Nobody could see what I was building.
There was no cheering section.
No applause.
No proof it was all going to work out.

Just me continuing to build anyway.

I've heard from many of you about what you're building. What's pressing on your heart in this season. Or what you're moving away from. These messages make my entire day…they inspire me that we’re doing this quiet work, together.
