Put on your roller skates!
Since we live in the frozen tundra and winter has fully set up camp in our life, we’ve resorted to indoor activities most people would probably not recommend for the kitchen…
This week's activity? Roller skating around the kitchen and living room.
Hallie is learning to roller skate, and she has the coordination of her mom…which is essentially that of a baby giraffe. I really do feel for her.
So with her elbow pads, knee pads, and skates all buckled in, she hobbled and wobbled around the kitchen.
And she’d fall.
Get up.
And fall.
Get up.
And fall again.
Finally, out of frustration, she shouted, “Why do I keep losing?”
Now, for anyone who’s read Unapologetic, we can all laugh together here because this girl gets it honest. In the chapter Failure is Just Learning the Hard Way, I shared that really hate losing. It’s a lesson that took me a lot of life to learn.
So when she asked, “Why do I keep losing?”
I replied, “You’re not losing…you’re learning.”
To which she quickly responded, “But I want to win!”
She’s four y’all.
But in that moment, I saw something familiar.
The desire to win. The desire to get it right. The desire to be perfect the first time.
Sound familiar?
You can’t grow at something new without being bad at it first.
Failure isn’t the problem. Refusing to learn from it is.
So this week, I have a question for you:
Where are you avoiding the wobble?
Where are you sitting out because you’re afraid to fall?
Leadership, growth, confidence…none of them come from getting it right the first time.
They come from getting back up.
So where can you put on the skates this week?
I hope you’ll try. I hope you’ll learn.
Big hugs & so much love,
Cassy
