She said, “I never take it off”

Last October we were walking back from a work dinner when we spotted two clients eating outside the hotel on the patio. It was already dark, but we sat down and joined them anyway.

It was the first time I was meeting them both, and at that particular conference, I was handing out Unapologetic bracelets ahead of the launch. I hadn't seen either of them since, until this week in San Antonio.

I gave her a very overdue hug, and before I could even say hello, she said, "Look!" and lifted her wrist. "I never take it off."

Wrapped around it, one whole year later: the word Unapologetic.

When I met her last October, I wasn't sure anyone would buy the book, let alone read it or love it. Unapologetic Women was still a far-off dream. I could never have imagined that a year later, this same hug would find me standing where I am now.

But it's what my entire message is built around: One Move.

I handed out over 100 bracelets at that conference, before I had any idea what any of it would become.

Almost a year later, I still light up like a Christmas tree inside every time I see one on someone's wrist. I never could've imagined what those bracelets would end up representing: strength, belief, perseverance, wrapped around someone's arm as a daily reminder.

They symbolize a movement that's really just getting started.

And they remind me that our words matter. Our work matters. And our intention is what fuels momentum, even on the days we want to give up.

I spoke to a room full of some of the best sales and marketing leaders in the homebuilding industry this week, fresh off two days of incredible speakers.

My challenge to them was simple: what's the one conversation you can have this week? Not next week, not next month. Now.
