What’s up with the mess?

I find myself in a really interesting season…

One where I never quite feel caught up.

My house stays messy-ish.
My to-do list is never complete.
And I am constantly digging my way out of piled-up messages.

I joke that I’m a hot mess, but truthfully… life is pretty messy right now.

So yesterday, when I went downstairs to grab Uni, I stopped in my tracks.

Quick sidebar: Uni is Hallie’s OG Wubbanub. We cut the pacifier off when she turned one, and when I tell y’all this unicorn has been through it… girlfriend is a survivor.

She was gone for two months this past November. We thought it was the end. Then one day at daycare, I spotted what looked like a mushed-up, frozen, leaf-covered mud pile in the grass…It was Uni! She had been frozen out there for weeks!

Was it necessary to tell you that story? Absolutely not. But I trust we can all appreciate a good stuffy-survival story.

Back to the basement…

I’m down there looking for Uni, and in the middle of the biggest mess was the cutest little scene.

If Hallie’s story could be captured in one picture without her in it, this would be it.

You see Uni is laying in the Barbie house dog bed, perfectly placed next to Woody and her Woody costume. Buzz and her Buzz costume are right alongside of them. And all I could hear was, You’ve got a friend in me.

It was the sweetest, most strategic setup.

And there, among the dress-up clothes, balls, books, puzzle pieces, and play food scattered all over the floor, was a mess telling a very important story.

Have you ever stopped to consider what story your mess might be telling?

Because the truth is, my mess shows that my time right now is just better spent.

Better spent playing with my girls.
Stopping to snuggle every time Hallie asks.
Dance parties during bath time.
And building a business that, more and more every day, God keeps showing up in.

Could my house be cleaner? Absolutely.
Could my output be more efficient? Probably.
Could my responses be quicker? Definitely.

But I am sitting in the mess, Unapologetically. I don’t apologize for this season. And I don’t think you should apologize for yours either.

So this week, I want to challenge you to look inward and ask:

What story does my mess tell?

Because this too shall pass. These moments are not forever. And life is still moving quickly.

So rather than only seeing the mess as a mess, I hope you’ll see the story.

And I hope it’s as full of love as ours.

Big hugs & so much love,

Cassy
