A Willie-Wannabe!
I looked over to Willie.
I had one of those rub-your-eyes, do-a-double-take, am-I-hallucinating moments while driving the girls to school.
We were about five minutes away when a car sped past us on the right. And the driver—at first glance—looked like Willie Nelson.
You read that right.
She was driving erratically with both elbows on the wheel so she could finish what appeared to be her second braid of her long brown hair.
I quickly got out of her general vicinity and mentally filed this under Things I Never Thought I’d See While Driving.
That bucket already has a few oddball stories but I’ll save those for another time.
I couldn’t believe she thought driving a car was also a good time to braid her hair.
I can barely braid Hallie’s hair while she’s sitting still…let alone with my elbows on the wheel.
How late was she?
How behind was she feeling?
And how often do we let that same feeling push us into distractions that clearly impact our results?
We talked about time blocking during Office Hours in the TRIBE this week and there’s research (and entire books) that argue no one can actually multitask. Our brains don’t allow it.
So if that’s true, we could also argue that anytime we try to do too many things at once, our results are delayed, compromised, or left incomplete.
I’m using this Willie-wannabe moment as my reminder to take the list one thing at a time.
We can’t drive with our elbows.
And we can’t show up as our best selves when we’ve got our feet in two buckets.
So where can you reduce distractions today and drive with both hands?
Big hugs & so much love,
Cassy
